A Dystopian World

I woke up this morning feeling refreshed after an unusually good sleep. The birds were singing outside and for a very brief moment all felt well with the world.

Then BAM

The reality of the surreal dystopian state of affairs we are living in today – coronavirus, empty food shelves in supermarkets, quarantine, social distancing, travel bans and more avalanched into my mind shattering what little sense of rightness with the world I had felt. Fear of the unknown boomed its war cry and demanded I follow it into imagined scenarios of doom and gloom. All this and I hadn’t even gotten out of bed and brushed my teeth!

By the time I had gotten my coffee and trusty vape I had managed to claw back some common sense and reason. I drank and puffed away while focusing my mind on today and the strange circumstances we all find ourselves in. My thoughts went to the elderly, infirm and the community I live in. At The Vape Shop we have already put into practice as many offerings as possible to help customers from home deliveries to free hand sanitizer, As a vape outlet there is not much more we can do, apart from offer positive service to all shoppers who are worried. With the new report from Imperial College of London Covid-19 Response Team which states this pandemic could dramatically affect us for up to the next 18 months Governments, businesses and people must now adjust to this unprecedented event since the World War.

Vape Shop Customers

Walking to work it seems business as usual in the town I live in, people milling about, shopping, getting coffees and the like. The cafe’s, while still serving people, now have lots of empty tables whereas before they would be packed appears to be the only difference. Once I arrived at The Vape Shop the customers started pouring in, stocking up and preparing for the worst – a complete shutdown of the Highstreet and local shops. Most say they expect a month’s lockdown to be put in place, so they are eager to stockpile to make sure they don’t run out of their favourite vape juice as well as other home products. They chat about their experience at the local supermarkets and how the shelves are emptied. One vape shop customer told how they watched a supermarket staff who was stacking ice in one of the shop isles get accosted by an irate shopper who shouted at them that they wanted food put out and not ice. The young student assistant, who was probably part time, looked afraid and upset. Unfortunately, this story is not the only one as stockpiling mania takes hold.

Always Open Online

The Vape Shop will always offer our online e liquid ordering service throughout this dark time and unless the post office and delivery companies stop working, which I personally can’t see as how else will the big companies be able to send bills to customers for things like rates, tax, broadband and other such annoying stuff. If this scenario of the post office and delivery companies do stop work, we will offer a personal CONTACTLESS delivery service to local customers, unless this is banned by the Government or goes against the medical and scientific advice. The point is don’t worry, you won’t be left without access to vape products or e liquid, and the same is true of food and home products. The supermarkets have the stock delivered everyday – we won’t run out. Maybe, at a given time, you can’t get hold of something but be assured there is always new stock on its way.

Vape Shops Closures Due To Coronavirus Prevention Policies

Most people in the UK are worried about catching coronavirus and the impact this nasty pandemic will have on their lives. Already shelves are being emptied faster than they can be stocked in the main supermarkets. Items like pasta, toilet rolls and hand sanitiser are more sought after than gold. Of course, the bottom feeders have gotten in on the panic buying up stock and reselling it for inflated prices on the likes of Ebay and Amazon. The panic has now infected the vaping market with vapers worried they might not be able to get hold of their much needed nicotine liquid.

If the UK Government follows the policies of the EU countries like Austria, France, Spain, Italy and others who have put in place strict social distancing quarantines to avert the spread of Coronavirus then at some point vape shops will, like other shops, have to close. This closure could last from 2 weeks up to a month. No one really knows. But, if the rumours coming out of the Government are to be listened to, it is definitely going to happen. Vapers have been flocking to our shop offline and online buying in bulk over the last week to get ready for a period of isolation and shop closure.

The Costs Of Coronavirus Vape Shop Closure

The impact of shop closure, imposed by the Government as a way to combat the spread of Coronavirus, on a lot of small vape businesses in the UK is going to be fatal. Most of these small vape businesses can take a few days, possibly even a week of non-trading but if it extends into a month or two? What then? These small vape shops will still have to pay rent, rates and other bills regardless of whether their shops are closed. We are hoping that along with the order to close, the Government will also offer financial support such as rate free and possibly rent free periods during the imposed closures.

Act Now, Overdrafts & Short Term Loans

As for The Vape Shop and other main businesses that have a thriving online presence our businesses will take a small knock but we can weather the storm generating income through online ordering and cash flow. Cash flow is King in an emergency like this and only the businesses with access to cash flow, and an online business model, will come through generally unscathed. If, as a vape business, you don’t have much cash flow or an online presence that produces income it would be advisable to seek out help from the banks to arrange overdrafts or short term loans to cover the period of the next few months or you may go bust through no fault of your own.

Forward Thinking & Planning

Unfortunately this pandemic could not be foreseen, apart from the Author Dean Koontz who wrote a fiction novel in the 1980’s about the Coronavirus epidemic released in China. Titled ‘The Eyes of Darkness’, the book revolves around a grieving mother investigating the mysterious circumstances of her son’s death, is a peculiar reference to a killer virus known as “Wuhan-400”. Creepy I know! So apart from Dean Koontz no one else saw it coming but we all must deal with it the best way we can, and forward thinking and planning can save lots of vape businesses from having to close permanently.

Business As Usual For The Vape Shop

Our online business www.TheVapeShop.co.uk will be operating as normal throughout any quarantine procedures ensuring all our customers can receive their vape juice and products the next day delivered to their door. So, there is no real need to panic.

NHS Trusts To Offer E Cigarettes To Smokers

In a few months all Hospitals in the UK will enforce a complete ban of smoking tobacco cigarettes on their premises – including car parks. This ban will cause a lot of patient-smokers discomfort and irritability as they lose the cherished quick fag outside the hospital entrance. No longer will they be able to trot out of the ward and down the sterilised hallways to join the community of smokers all huddled together just outside the front door. Instead they will see a group of people vaping without a care in the world getting their nicotine fix.

Hospitals across the UK are being encouraged to allow vaping based on the new report from Public Health England. Up to now the NHS Trust has discouraged both tobacco smoking and vaping from hospital grounds. In light of PHE (Public Health England) stating that vaping is 95% healthier than smoking tobacco cigarettes plus the latest report Vaping In England 2020 the NHS is being asked to look into allowing vapers to vape throughout all the NHS sites in the UK. In fact vape shops have been opened up within two hospitals in the West Midlands which are run by Sandwell and West Birmingham hospitals NHS trust. The board of the NHS University Hospitals Plymouth at their Derriford Hospital is considering handing out disposable e cigarettes to help smokers quit tobacco. Derriford hospital is not alone as all UK hospitals have been encouraged to start selling e cigarettes to its patients who smoke tobacco in a bid to help them quit.

Vaping Inside Hospitals?

The PHE has gone even further and asked hospitals to look at allowing vapers to vape inside the actual hospital and at the very least building vape shelters outside their doors so that vapers have somewhere to go. Since most hospitals do not allow tobacco cigarette smoking on their grounds having a dedicated vaping shelter could be a serious enticement to patients switching from smoking cigarettes to vaping instead. At the moment only a few hospitals have taken this proactive change but it’s looking like more and more hospitals in the UK will follow suit. By allowing patients to vape is a really switched on move by both PHE and the NHS, and one that in the long run can and will reduce their costs, as many patients that hospitals provide services to patients who suffer from some sort of smoking related illness. According to the Government’s Tobacco Control Plan for England, smoking costs our economy in excess of £11bn per year. Of this, £2.5bn falls to the NHS, £5.3bn falls to employers, and £4.1bn falls to wider society. It is also estimated that smoking-related health conditions creates a demand pressure on local councils of £760m a year for social care services.

We still have a long way to go in busting the negative myths around vaping, despite the PHE’s findings, in the smokers public domain. However, these new initiatives even though only by a few NHS hospitals could be the start of change across the whole of the NHS and would be a major boost in helping smokers understand the reduced risk vaping offers. With over a third of UK councils cutting budgets and support for smoking cessation services such as local stop smoking groups smokers more than ever need extra support from organisations such as the NHS. For too long the NHS has shied away and even downplayed the reduced risks of vaping. Instead the NHS has promoted other NRT methods which the PHE report has clearly shown do not work as well as vaping.

Vaping in England Report 2020

The recent Vaping in England report released by the UK Government earlier this month (March 2020) was a great boost for the UK vaping industry and for UK vapers. It was the sixth report so far commissioned by Public Health England to look at evidence that can help the Government achieve positive policies and legislation. Its focus was to look at the prevalence of vaping in young people and adults. All in all, it was a pretty positive report for the industry, devoid of the hysteria and junk studies that bombard vapers on a daily basis, and unfortunately scare smokers into carrying on with their deadly habit. The Vaping in England study looked at facts and real statistics which showed some interesting insights in the actual vaping experience with young people and adults.

UK illnesses & Deaths Caused By Vaping

One of the areas the report investigated was the current statistics related to illnesses and deaths in the UK that had been directly related to vaping. The evidence showed the result was nil (zero) in the UK. They did find there were 4 reports of deaths sent to the MHRA that had been suspected to be connected with vaping – but no evidence/connection was found. As a vaper and someone that works in the vape industry in the UK really pleased about this aspect of the report. The UK operates strict guidelines around the manufacture and supply of e cigarette products and as a result we have a one of the world’s best safety records in this area. As with product supply industries we cannot prevent individuals who are willing to risk their health via buying non-licensed products or illicit products online or off the black market.

The spate of lung injuries and deaths in the US is not attributable to the regulated nicotine vaping products currently sold in England.”
Public Health England

Vaping & Young People

Another area of the Vaping England report that was positive was specifically related to children and young people. One of the many arguments for banning vape products comes from the speculation that vaping would be a gateway for children and young people into smoking tobacco. I have to say the people that speculate this claim are definitely not vapers. There is no way you would throw out that awesome flavour and sub ohm vape experience for the dead rotten wood taste and limited inhale experience of a fag, however I digress. The report showed that the amount of young people aged between 11-15 years did not grow over the year 2018-2019 (6%) but in fact dropped by 1% to 5%. This is a lot less related to the number of 11-15 year old’s who have drunk alcohol in England which is (according to DrinkAware) 44%. The amount of the same age group who smoke tobacco cigarettes has reduced from 11% in 2009 to 5% in 2018.

While it would be best if the stats were zero the report of vaping in young people is a positive one, in so far as the stats show a small decrease in the amount of young people vaping as opposed the massive increase the negative media reports speculated would happen. We are never going to be able to stop some kids from doing things they should not do such as drinking, smoking or vaping. The fact that the numbers show a ‘small percentage’, and one which has dropped between 2018-2019, is a really good sign that the UK vaping industry is performing adhering to guidelines and performing on an ethical basis. Most of the children who had vaped said they were given a vape device by friends with only a small few that state they bought from a shop. I did find this last bit distasteful to know that some vendors are putting the pound-note above health and care of young people. It’s these types of vendors that give the industry a bad name. If you can’t rove your over 18yrs old you won’t get served in The Vape Shop.

Current vaping is mainly concentrated in young people who have experience of smoking.”
Public Health England

Less Than 1% Of Vapers Are Non Smokers

One of the biggest eye openers in the report for me was the finding that LESS than 1% of people who vape have never smoked. This means a few things, one that over 99.9% of people that take up vaping are either smokers who want to quit or ex-smokers looking to not start smoking again. It also means that the UK vape industry is being responsible in its sale of vaping products to smokers and not enticing non-smokers to use vape products just to make a quick buck. I actually felt proud of our industry when I read this as it flies in the face of a lot of the negative doomsayers that portray our industry as some kind of scam run by unethical bottom feeders killing people while stealing their money. At The Vape Shop we have always maintained a strong ethical stance on sale of vape products. We simply don’t sell products to people that don’t or have not smoked, no matter how old they are. I personally have refused to sell vape devices to adults well within their 30’s who just wanted to try vaping but had never smoked a few times. I have to say that most of them took it well a bit astonished that we would not sell our products to them.

What the above figures from the report show is that vaping is targeted solely at smokers who have a desire to quit or ex-smokers who are tempted to start smoking again. The fear of vaping being a gateway into smoking tobacco cigarettes is a false one and should be firmly put to bed while not detracting from the strong regulation and policies required by any NRT product. The fact that we as an industry are targeting, and very successfully, those who need it, and not those who don’t, shows the high standards most vape businesses in the UK apply to their operation.

What I did find sad to see in the report was that the false negative media coverage and dodgy bad health claims has had an impact on smokers who have not tried vaping. The report found that the percentage of smokers (who had not tried vaping) that believed vaping was harmful or worse than smoking increased by 10% between 2014 and 2019. This is a direct result of false scaremongering in the media. Public Health England went on to say that these smokers suffered from misconceptions about vaping.

“Incorrect perceptions among the public about the harms of vaping could prevent some smokers using vaping products to quit smoking.”
Public Health England

Conclusion Of Vaping in England Report 2020

Finally, the facts shine through the murky darkness banishing the myths and falsehoods that have surrounded vaping over the last so many years. Although we cannot persuade all smokers to switch to vaping as a safer alternative we can, by pushing this report, help reduce the negative fears around vaping in the UK therefore helping more smokers to quit tobacco.

It would be great for as many people as possible to share this article or the actual report which can be found here: Vaping in England Report 2020 by Public Health England

Top 5 Vape Tricks

Some vaper’s just look cool, their kit is glitzy and powerful, the way they hold their vape device and chugg looks like something from a street model photo-shoot, and then there are the super cool vaper’s who not only look good but can do some awesome tricks with the massive vapour they blow out.

If, like me, you have watched vapers perform some mind boggling vape clouds and vapour tricks online and then tried to do them yourself only to produce a thick hazy cloud of messy vapour. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. How do these seemingly professional vapours produce some of the O rings, tornados and other incredible visually artistic vapour designs in mid air? Well that’s what this post is about. The first thing you need is a quality low, or zero, nicotine e liquid as you will be chugging a lot. You can check out our great tasting e juices which are all available in high VG and are great for high vapour tricks. You also need a sub-ohm vaping device or self-build. Pods and sticks don’t produce enough vapour for vape tricks.

Below you can view the top 5 vape cloud designs and tricks and learn how to do them.

1. Cup Of Vapour Trick

This vaping trick involves slowly filling up a see through cup with vapour and then pouring out the vapour from the cup or drinking the vapour from the cup which looks really cool. It looks amazing and is generally one of the simpler vapour tricks that most can perform.

How To Perform The Cup Of Vapour

1. Get a decent sized clean and clear plastic or glass cup.
2. Draw as much vapour into your mouth without inhaling
3. Put the glass to your mouth and slowly let the vapour out into the glass. Let the glass fill up to the rim.Tip: Fully inhaling the vapour will dissipate it, as does forcefully exhaling it, so this trick only works if you hold the vapour in your mouth before transferring it to the glass.
4. When the glass is full gently tip it on its side and let some of the vapour pour out as liquid, the vapour will pour before it dissipates in the air.
5.Bring the cup up to your mouth and inhale the rest of the vapour from the glass slowly and it looks like your drinking it.

2. The Vape Bubble Trick

The vape bubble trick looks amazing and is good fun to do. Imagine being able to blow bubbles full of thick vapour and watch them float away. Well that is what this trick will allow you to do. What you need is a sub ohm vape device, high VG juice, one empty plastic water bottle (the bigger the size the bigger the bubbles) and some liquid soap.

How To Produce Vape Bubbles

1. Cut the bottle in half retaining the top half with the neck.
2. Place the open bottom of the cut half of the bottle (the part with the bottle neck) in a dish with the soap.
3. Lift up the bottle neck out of the dish which should now have a thin soap seal on it and gently blow in thick vapour.
4. A bubble should start foaming at the base of the bottle filled with vapour.
5. Gently shake the bottle to release the bubble from the bottle bottom and watch it float away.

3. The Dragon Vape Trick

The dragon vape trick looks really cool and produces a lot of vapour in jet streams looking like a dragon firing up.There are four streams of vapor exhaled. Two from the nose, and one from each side of the mouth directed to each side. It’s best when performing this trick, as will all vape tricks, to use a low, or zero, nic high VG e juice. You will need a high powered sub ohm vaping device and some patience.

How To Achieve The Perfect Vape Dragon

1.Take a large inhale of vapour
2. Hold the middle of your mouth tightly shut, allowing small holes at either side of your mouth.
3. Breathe the vapour out of your nose while simultaneously breathing through the side of you mouth as well.

4. The Tornado Vape Trick

Performing the tornado vape trick with friends or at a party will amaze those watching. It involves creating the funnel of a tornado rising up from a surface but made out of vapour instead. When performed well it looks really cool but will take a bit of practise to achieve the dragon well. You will need a flat surface such as a table, a sub ohm vape device and low, or zero, high VG e juice.

How To Do A Great Vape Tornado

1. Take a big inhale of vapour
2. Place your mouth next to the surface and EVER SO SLOWLY release the vapour out of your mouth onto the surface being careful not to breathe through your nose as you do.
3. Once the vapour is resting on the table, place your hand horizontal and flat (as if you are about to shake somebody’s hand) and flip it and lift it at the same time.

5. The O Ring Vape Trick

Performing the O ring trick is one of the most iconic vape tricks out there. It has been worked on by many and even vapers who blow vapour rings through large rings creating a smart visual effect. To achieve this trick you will need a sub ohm vaping device and low, or zero, nic strength high VG e juice.

How To Blow Great Vape O Rings

1. Take a deep puff and hold the vapour at the back of your throat
2. Keep the tongue at the bottom of the mouth as far back as you can
3. Make your mouth into an O shape
4. Purse your lips inward|
5. Expel a small amount of vapour with a mini cough

Why Wont All Smokers Switch To Vaping?

Never has there been a better and easier time to quit smoking. Smokers can no longer claim that it’s too hard to quit. Neither can they claim that NRT and vaping is bad for them. In 2020 there is enough factual evidence from studies conducted by the Government and respected bodies that proves both NRT and vaping are a lot safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes. In a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2019 by the Queen Mary University of London of a clinical trial performed which showed that vaping is TWICE as effective in helping smokers quit tobacco than traditional NRT products like gum and patches. Despite the vaping industry having entered the negative spotlight in recent times with a spate of lung illnesses in the US – the flames of this incorrect assertion fire, that vaping was to blame, we’re firmly put out by the UK government in Vaping England Report 2020 that showed clearly, and correctly, that vaping illicit THC products was the actual cause and not standard vaping liquids – vaping is becoming generally accepted as a safer alternative to smoking tobacco.

So Why Are Not All Smokers Switching To Vaping?

DoctorIf the single biggest cause of deaths and illnesses in the UK, smoking tobacco cigarettes, is preventable, and with such a no-brainer substitute as vaping available to mitigate any withdrawals and loss of smoker actions – chugging on something that delivers nicotine and blowing out smoke. Why are so many smokers sticking with the fatal habit of smoking? It can’t be because of the lack of flavours offered by e liquid companies. Today there are so many great tobacco tasting e juice flavours that mimic the real thing and then some. It also can’t be that the vape devices are too big or too small as there are so many devices from pods to sticks to large powered mods available. And it can’t be to do with the cost as it’s way cheaper using and maintaining an ecig than it is buying fags. So why the hell are not all smokers flocking to the local vape shop to get kitted out and free themselves from the deadly habit of tobacco smoking?

The answer to this question has multiple answers, one smoker’s reasons for not quitting can differ from other smokers. However, I believe there some main obstacles to quitting the fags and below are some of the main reasons confirmed smokers keep with the habit and refuse to switch.

The Ostrich Syndrome

Trust me it’s a real thing. The Ostrich Syndrome is about human beings that choose to deny change – in very simple layman terms. Firstly, ostrich’s don’t really bury their heads in sand as they would not be able to breathe and would die. This analogy of the ostrich has become a real bona fide syndrome for some people. In the case of the confirmed smoker, especially one that is older, he or she chooses to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to smoking. They deny the health risks and warnings and block out all positive initiatives that could help them quit. They fill their blood with harmful toxins, restricting the oxygen in their body it requires to live healthy and setting themselves up for a 1-in-2 chance of heart attack, stroke or lung disease and cancer. Smokers suffering from the Ostrich Syndrome choose to block out reality insanely hoping that all the factual evidence will simply pass them by. They choose denial over change, if one does not look at the evidence that it won’t exist – they think. It’s very hard to communicate in an adult way with this type of person as they usually block any form of awareness that would require them to see the harsh reality they are trying so hard to avoid, usually because the two main fears smokers have.

Fear Of Change

Fear Of Quitting SmokingMost people fear change whether consciously or unconsciously. We are creatures of habit and routine. Nobody likes major change in their lives especially when it’s related to an addiction like smoking. This fear of change can keep a person in a negative situation or habit blocking them from experiencing a better life. Changing from smoking the beloved brand of fags to a new form of nicotine delivery device like an ecigarette can be a massive thing for some smokers, especially if they are older. Change requires a new mindset, learning new methodologies such as charging, filling and maintaining vape devices. This can be a huge ask to someone that’s been smoking for 40 years and simply light’s up the fag. As vapers we know that in no time at all the whole ritual associated with an e cigarette becomes second nature and easy. But for some people the prospect of taking on this new way of getting nicotine can seem too much. Today there are so many devices to choose from it boggles the mind. There are simple click and puff vape devices with pre-filled cartridges, top fill tanks, bottom fill tanks, self-build and on and on it goes. It’s no wonder some smokers just think it’s too much to take on. The fear of starting a new way of doing things can be so big that one may be prepared to face the harsh realities of bad health and death than face the powerful fear of change. It’s up to us in the vaping industry to tackle this fear, helping hardened smokers overcome their fear and embrace the new. We can do this through easy to understand marketing, clear and simple guides and above all superior customer service.

If the ban on advertising or marketing was lifted then I think we would be able to encourage a lot more smokers to quit through giving them responsible and informative messages through mainstream media. Unfortunately, at present most smokers must learn through word of mouth and this can be like Chinese whispers at times confusing fiction with fact, so some smokers are left with a hazy understanding of what vaping is.

Fear Of Letting Go Smoking

The fear of letting go of smoking is massive, almost a neurosis. When you mention quitting smoking to a confirmed smoker you can see the dread on their face as they give 101 reasons why not to. One of the most popular reasons I hear all the time is ‘well you have to die from something…’ The fear of letting go arises in the smoker due to the false imagery the mind creates in them that they would have to do without something that they have relied on. They picture themselves, as a non-tobacco smoker, as someone who is missing something. This sense of not having something and having an empty space where their tobacco-crutch once was leaves them in literal terror. So, they cling to the denial and use all their willpower to keep the bad habit.

The benefit of ecigarettes are that they target this fear of losing something head on. As a safer substitute for nicotine delivery, plus the way ecigarettes mimic the smoking experience and actions, the confirmed smoker does not really lose anything at all, apart from the poisons and toxins that tobacco cigarettes deliver. In fact, the only bridge the smoker must cross is switching from the familiarity of the cigarette to the new vape device. Smoking as a crutch, a kind of negative Lionel’s blanket, creates a false sense of relief and support for the smoker. To let go of this crutch can be like looking into a dark abyss of nothing. However if we could properly inform the confirmed smoker of the benefits of vaping as opposed to smoking, about the sensation and flavour similarity plus the nicotine hit relief factor that e cigarettes offer this fear of letting go of tobacco would reduce to become a little bump in the road instead of an impenetrable wall of steel.

Mesh Coils For Dummies

OK for those of you that have been using mesh coils for some time this article is probably not for you. However if you are one of many who are not sure what a Mesh coil is or why you should consider one then read on. Coils, the part of the e cig device that heats up to transform your e liquid into vapour, have radically changed since their first appearance. I remember being amazed when the new EGO C coil came out to replace the old EGO T burner. It was revolutionary at the time. Then we got the good old CE4 atty with the twin cotton strings that soaked the liquid and carried it up to the burner. The CE4 is still used today by some basic vapers as it’s a cheap disposable tank for mouth to lung vaping.

Today we have single, double, triple and quadruple coils of all sub ohm strengths. Typically all these coils work with a single kanthal (or other) wire that wraps around the cotton. This wire heats up the eliquid soaked cotton causing it to release vapour which we inhale. The more cotton, and the thicker the wire, the more power it can take and the greater the vapour it releases (something along those lines).

What Is A Mesh Coil & How Does It Work?

Single-Vs Mesh CoilThe Mesh coil, a more recent addition to the sub ohm coil culture, is simply a different type of heating apparatus. Instead of a single wire wrapping around the coil the Mesh coil uses a metal sheet (mesh sheet) with holes in it. This mesh sheet wraps around the whole of the cotton, and because it covers more of the surface of the cotton than a single wire does, when the mesh sheet is heated it heats more cotton which results in more vapour.

Why Should I Use A Mesh Coil?

The answer is you don’t need to use a mesh coil if you are satisfied with your current sub ohm tank and coils. If however, like me, you prefer to get the very best you can in terms of flavour and performance from your vape device then upgrading to a mesh coil is a no-brainer.

Pros Of Using A Mesh Coil

Below are some benefits a mesh coil can provide:

  1. It heats up faster than traditional sub ohm coils which means you don’t have to wait for that deep inhale.
  2. Even flavour and vapour creation caused by the utilising the whole of the cotton and not just parts where a single wire contacts.
  3. Lasts longer that traditional sub ohm coils because of it’s design. Single wire coils burn out easier due to small areas being continuously heated whereas a mesh coil distributes the heat evenly over a larger surface so don’t wear as quickly.
  4. Extends battery life due to requiring less power to perform high-end sub ohm vaping.

Cons Of Using A Mesh Coil

Are there any cons to using a mesh coil I hear you ask? Not really. The only downsides to using a mesh coil is that it is designed for direct to lung vaping so it’s not suitable for vapers who prefer mouth to ling. But as most sub ohm vapers use the direct to lung method of vaping anyway it’s not really a big issue.

The Top 9 Mesh Coil Sub Ohm Tanks in 2020

As the benefits of mesh coils take hold of the vaping market there are now a range of great mesh coil based tanks to choose from. These tanks have been created and designed with the mesh coil as their focus. Below are the top 9 mesh tanks for 2020:

Vaping Travel Guide

If like me you like to travel then you’re probably aware of the slight anxious feeling you get when it comes to travelling abroad with your vape device and e liquid. Questions in your mind arise as to what you can safely take in your hand luggage and suitcase. Will they let you through customs with your device? Can you vape in the country you are going to? If you’re planning a trip abroad and are a vaper then this post is for you. There is nothing that can ruin your holiday more than having all your vape supplies confiscated on departure or arrival. Or, if you have managed to get through the airports and arrive at your hotel only to face a steep fine for vaping in public. Avoid the pitfalls of upsetting your holiday by reading this post and travel in peace armed with the facts.

E CIGS, E LIQUID & PLANES

E Cig Batteries Banned In Hold Luggage

Did you know that you can’t take spare ecig batteries in your hold luggage? Generally most airlines have now prohibited vapers from placing lithium ion batteries in their suitcases to go in the hold of the plane. You can take up to two batteries in your hand luggage that you carry on the plane. But that’s it! If you have a specialty vape device that requires larger lithium batteries that exceed 100 watt-hours for rechargeable – these are prohibited in both hold and carry on luggage.

You can take your vape device on a plane in your carry on luggage as long as the device is powered down. You can carry two batteries for your device as long as these are protected from short circuiting by using original packaging or safe battery kits.

E Liquid & Planes

Most airlines will allow you to take e liquid onto the plane in carry on hand luggage as long as it does not exceed the liquid measures the airline has set which is usually 100ml. There are no restrictions on carrying spare e liquid greater than a 100ml in your suitcase hold luggage. I usually have 2-3 120ml bottles stored in my suitcase when I travel. The last thing I want to do is run out of my favourite e juice when I’m abroad.

And lastly No You Cannot Vape On The Plane!!!

There are varying laws and restrictions on vaping including the import, retail and personal use of e cigarettes in different countries throughout the world. As a dedicated vaper it’s important to know in advance where you are travelling to and the regions specific laws regarding the use of e cigarettes. The worst places to travel if you are a vaper are:

Guvana, Qatar, Thailand, Dubai

The above countries have strict rules with hefty fines and even imprisonment for the use or sale of e cigarettes. Ironically in all these countries you can kill yourself and others through passive cigarette smoking 24 hours a day. No one will bat an eye if you chain smoke through 40 fags in a crowded area puffing the cancerous toxins contained in tobacco cigs in the faces of the locals.

Have You Got The Dreaded Vapers Tongue?

If you have been vaping for a while then you are bound to have had this annoying condition called ‘Vapers Tongue’ although you might not have known. Vapers tongue is the term to describe a loss of flavour sensation that happens after you have vaped e juice for a while. Generally vapers blame their e liquid complaining that it’s lost its flavour. It was good at first then nothing! Nada! Just a bland taste of nothing. In your disgust you might even decide never to buy that flavour again, or even worse, avoid the whole e juice brand forever.

How You Taste The Vape Juice

To understand vapers tongue it’s important to know how you taste. The average person has anywhere between 2000 to 8000 taste buds. Depending on the amount of taste buds you have denotes the type of e juice flavours you prefer. For example if you are someone with the higher end of taste buds then you might like e liquid flavours that other vapers with less taste buds can’t discern the flavour from and just get a bland taste. Someone with lesser taste buds may prefer the stronger Menthol based flavours because of their potency.

Vapers Tongue Explained

Essentially someone suffering with vapers tongue becomes numb to the flavours in their ejuice when they vape, like a kind of flavour fatigue. Usually this will happen after you have been vaping a single e juice flavour for a while although other reasons which we will look at below can also cause vapers tongue symptoms. When you suddenly can’t taste your favourite e liquid anymore no matter how hard you puff on that vape and you start to feel bereft that you might lose that special flavoured juice from your liquid favourites – don’t worry. This annoying trait of vaping is easily rectified and is not permanent or serious.

Reason For Vapers Tongue

Woman Vapers TongueBelow are 7 of the most common causes for losing flavour taste sensation when vaping.

  • Long term vaping the same flavour
  • Dirty tank, coils and mouthpiece
  • Recently stopped smoking cigarettes
  • Taste bud loss
  • Cold, flu or other illness
  • Stress
  • Dehydration

All the above can be reasons why you cannot taste your e juice flavour any more. Vapers tongue is usually associated with No1, (long term single favour use), and is easily solved by switching to another flavour for a day or two. After you have been vaping another flavour for a short while you will find that when you go back to your old flavour the taste is back. Taste bud fatigue only requires a short break to renew itself.

Checking and cleaning your tank, coil and mouthpiece is a good idea to do every other day to maintain hygienic vaping conditions anyway but a buildup of gunk on the mouthpiece or a dirty coil can seriously affect the flavour performance.Obviously cold’s, stress and dehydration will affect your sense of taste right across the boar, not just with e juice. Unfortunately you can’t do anything about a cold apart from wait till it passes. Stress and dehydration can be solved through relaxation and drinking water.

Vapers Tongue Conclusion

So if you are about to throw away your supply of e liquid cause you can’t taste it anymore – hold on! Don’t waste your money, simply try to ascertain from the above list of causes which one you are suffering with and then take appropriate action. If it’s based from overuse of a single e liquid flavour then just buy another 10ml flavour and vape that for a while and you will find that when you come back to your favourite juice the flavour will be back in full strength.
