Ever thought about the hygiene aspect of vaping? Its a very important, but not so well documented, aspect of using an e cigarette, after all we are sticking them in our mouth plenty of times a day. In our walk-in stores all our flavour-test tanks are wiped after every use with an alcohol / antibacterial wipe.

When its your own personal e cig though how many times do you actually clean the tip of your tank? Most us are aware of cleaning the battery and screw threads of the atomizer insert with a dry tissue to clean away any unwanted e liquid. But most people forget about the actual tip of the tank/clearomizer which is the part we put into our mouths. You would be surprised the amount of ‘gunk’ that can build up in the tip and around the tip edges after 3-4 weeks of constant use.

Bacteria and nasty germs can build up quickly on tank/clearomizer tips that are not cleaned regularly and this can lead to mouth infection and mouth-ulcers. To combat this from happening always clean your filter/tips every few days or so with an alcohol/antibacterial wipe making sure you pass it through the middle of the tip ensuring you get right inside.

Gum Disease
If you have been a long term tobacco smoker don’t be surprised if you get some bleeding gums and mouth infection at the start of vaping as most long term smokers have got gum disease and whilst smoking the gum disease is masked. However after quitting tobacco for a few weeks the gum disease comes to the forefront as there is now more oxygen getting to the gums. A good course of decent mouthwash such as Corsodyl or such should deal with most light mouth issues but please consult your dentist if you experience any symptoms.

Aspire Atlantis Sub Ohm Coil Tank Review

I have been using the Aspire Atlantis for some time now and I am pleased to say that the statement by Aspirecig –  “The Atlantis performance is similar to even the best rebuildable atomizer…” – is absolutely true!

My Personal Review of The Aspire Atlantis Tank

I have been using the new Aspire Atlantis tank on a Cloupor T8 and have settled for 28 watts to suit my vaping requirements. I have used the Atlantis at 35 watts but as Im a PG vaper this is a little high for me personally. If you’re into your VG then this tank will perform up to the recommended 40 watts.

Personally I do not like the massive mouthpiece the Atlantis comes with, but because the tip is changeable, I easily replaced it with a slimmer stainless mouthpiece and WOW what a vape! I have got to say that for the first time in my vaping life I have experienced true satisfaction when it comes to throat hit, inhale, flavour intactness and vapour production using a non-RBA tank.

Cloud Vaping Using The Atlantis
We have all seen the cloud vapour produced by people using RBA’s. You know the ones… they usually let of a massive cloud just to announce their superiority over other vapers in The Vape Shop. If you have envied the cloud vaping abilities of RBA users but dislike the messiness of self build atomizers then the Atlantis is your chance to respond with a like-for-like vapour cloud. And rest assured this tank does perform exactly like the best of the RBA’s. Compared with the Tugboat V2 self build atomizer, for example, the Aspire Atlantis matched vapour cloud performance to the point we had to keep checking we were using the Atlantis and not made a mistake using an RBA as it just produced cloud after cloud.

Features Review Of The Aspire Sub Ohm Atlantis Tank
First of all the main feature of this new tank from Aspire is the Sub Ohm coil with a resistance of 0.5 ohms Aspire has managed to replicate the performance of most the top RBA’s. This Sub ohm coil can take up to 40 watts and deliver a massive cloud atomizer performance without all the finicky messy self build issues.

Another strong feature of the Aspire Atlantis is the special RDA-style airflow ring system located on the base which allows for various small to large airflow settings which are larger than the Nautilus tank.

The main parts of the Atlantis tank are, as you would expect, built from the best components such as pyrex tube, stainless steel housing and, adding in the special anti-leak design, really puts the Atlantis among the top tanks to own for serious vapers.

Battery Compatibility For The Atlantis
The Atlantis tank made by Aspirecig requires powerful batteries and WILL NOT work on traditional EGO style batteries. Aspire do sell a range of batteries suitable for the Atlantis however I use it with my Cloupor T8 (up to 150 watts). I have tried it with Vision Spinner 2’s and 1100mah EGO Twist and didn’t even produce a wisp! So definitely not for the average battery.

In a surprising turnaround the below BBC Trust Me Im A Doctor video highlights how electronic cigarette sceptic Dr Michael Mosley was completely dumbfounded when he set out to prove that e cigarettes were bad for the user.

In this new shocking video Dr Mosley performs scientific medical tests on tobacco smokers and e cigarette users to ascertain what is happening in the body of the smoker and the e cig user. The results of the test were shocking, to say the least, especially when it came to the result of ecig passive smoking. Not convinced Dr Mosley arranged a meeting with Prof Peter Hajek, the director of the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit at Queen Mary University of London to discuss the possible harm of e cigarettes compared to tobacco smoking. Again the result of this meeting was shocking to Dr Mosley as Professor Hajek stated that the nicotine in ecigarettes was only as dangerous as coffee and that he sees the Electronic Cigarette as a ‘REVOLUTIONARY DEVICE saving millions of lives!

Watch this amazing video that has turned Dr Mosley from a sceptic into a believer. In my opinion its one of the first truthful studies to be highlighted on the national media cutting through the hype created by politicians and tobacco companies.

Correct Charging Units

Here is a recent email received by The Vape Shop from an ecigarette user:

Hi,

I recently purchased a spare USB charger and a UK wall adapter from yourselves & I was wondering if you could help by explaining a few things. I’m extremely cautious about charging my Vaporizer & was recently advised that providing the MAH is between 500-1000 then its absolutely fine. But the USB lead is 420MAH and the adapter is 1000MAH. Does this make a difference? Also my partner has a USB lead but that’s a much higher MAH. So is there a range between the MAH in the USB leads & then a specific range of MAH in the wall adapters?

Industry eCig Battery Charge Capacity Confusion
The above email inquiry highlights the confusion within the industry about ecig chargers and their usage. All our ecig USB chargers are 420Mah and our wall adapters are mainly 500-1000Mah (both are 5 volts), in fact we have just reduced all wall adapters to 500Mah. The really important aspect to be aware of is that the USB charger unit (the unit the ecig battery screws into to) is 420Mah. The USB charger regulates the draw of power from the wall adapter to the acceptable amount for the lithium ion cell ecig battery.

420Mah Is The Safe Choice For The USB Charger
420Mah USB chargers are the safe unit for 650mah batteries and above, using 500Mah USB chargers and above can put too much power through to the battery causing it to overheat. The thing about a lithium ion cell battery is that it will draw as much power as is available, in fact it will often draw more power than is good for it, they are greedy cells! So connecting it to 500Mah and above will allow the battery more power than it can actually handle causing it to overheat and fail.

Various Powered Batteries
For a battery of 1000Mah and over a USB charger of 500Mah would be fine allowing the battery to charge faster, however it is always better to have a slow charge and be safe than get a fast charge by risking safety. For batteries lower than 1000Mah such as 650Mah a 420mah USB charger is recommended connected to a similar voltage plug adapter (5 Volts).

The Vape Shop Recommendations
As there is no real universal ecig charger that caters for all ecig batteries we recommend using the smaller 420Mah USB charger unit which will cater for smaller batteries with a decent charge speed and larger batteries with a slower charger speed.

Mix Your Own Flavours
Another great thing about The Vape Shop e liquid is that you can mix your own flavours to generate a flavour you like or even create an absolutely new flavour not yet in the mainstream. You can increase sweetness, add a sour taste or even increase flavour strength simply by mixing other Vape Shop e liquid flavours together and experimenting. For example a great little tobacco mix is adding some caramel e liquid to the the range of Cuban Supreme tobacco, by adding around a 10% ratio of caramel to the cuban supreme you will still get the delightful tobacco taste however it will have a new added depth of flavour and a sweet undertone its original vape experience.

Some Other E Liquid Mixing Tips
Obviously you may have to try a few times to find a perfect mix of flavours that satisfies your own vaping needs but here are some excellent mixing blends that fit together nicely:

Strawberry & Menthol
Liquorice & Menthol
Tobacco Ranges & Caramel
Strawberry & Lime
Cola & Citrus Fruits
ETC

As a guide try only adding around 10% of the flavour you are using to complement the main flavour you have so you don’t overpower the main flavour and always work from a small amount upwards till you arrive at the perfect mixed blend for you. However your mix turns out it will still be effective as long as you use flavours of the same nicotine strength.

Be prepared to produce some terrible tastes…
As part of all flavour blending and mixing you will produce some horrible tastes before you finally arrive at a perfect mix ratio and flavour match that suits you – don’t worry this is all part of the process. You may find you hit the e liquid holy grail and produce an outstanding flavour that is perfect for you and meets all your vaping needs right at the beginning of your mixing career.

In the media this week we saw a house badly damaged by a fire caused by careless charging of an electronic cigarette battery. In this specific instance the e cigarette user had lost his supplied USB charger and decided to use a non-e cigarette USB charger and then plugged the non e cigarette USB charger into a laptop computer which is strictly a NO-NO. To make matter worse the user then placed the improperly charging battery right next to an Air Horn which is combustible near heat. Needless to say the battery overheated blowing up the Air Horn and causing a fire which turned into a media frenzy about e cigarette batteries in general.
