Middlesbrough Students at Risk: Illicit Vapes Trigger Health Concerns

Parents and Authorities Alerted to Dangerous Vapes Circulating Among Youth

Emphasis on Safe Practices and Legal Age Compliance in Vape Purchases

In a concerning development in Middlesbrough, authorities have issued a stern warning about the circulation of potentially hazardous vaping devices among students. Cleveland Police have recently confiscated a significant number of vapes from a local school, raising alarms over the possible presence of controlled substances such as Spice and THC within these devices.

The issue came to light following troubling incidents where students reportedly suffered adverse health effects after using these vapes. According to police reports, these reusable vape pens might be tampered with by dealers, who are suspected of refilling them with the aforementioned drugs.

The Perils of Unregulated Vaping Products

The situation has prompted a serious conversation about the dangers of unauthorised vapes. Mark Adams, South Tees Joint Director of Public Health, underscored the risks associated with these illicit devices. He stressed that while regulated vapes containing nicotine can aid adults in quitting smoking, they are not intended for use by individuals under 18.

Adams expressed deep concern about young people purchasing these illegally filled devices online, highlighting the unknown and potentially harmful contents they might contain. He specifically pointed out the dangers of THC and Spice, which are psychoactive substances capable of causing severe health issues.

Call for Vigilance and Responsible Behaviour

The police have indicated that these risky devices are being distributed to youngsters through Snapchat and other social media platforms, posing a significant challenge to control their spread.

Parents and guardians are being urged to remain vigilant and engage in open conversations with their children about the dangers of these unregulated vapes. The emphasis is on the importance of procuring vapes, if at all, from trusted sources and strictly adhering to the legal age requirements.

This alarming situation in Middlesbrough serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of awareness and caution in matters concerning vaping, especially among the younger population.
